Cancer Assistance

One of the basic fundamentals of the Order of the Eastern Star is our emphasis on charitable and benevolent projects.  To accomplish these goals, we look to our members for contributions to our funds and two of our most important funds to help our members are our Cancer Funds, detailed below.  For members and their families struggling with cancer, please apply for assistance so that we can reach out to you in this difficult time.

J. Clifford Lee Memorial Cancer Fund

Purpose - This fund was created to give aid to members in good standing of the Order in California Chapters, and selected members of their immediate families, who are cancer patients and in need of financial assistance.  These funds can be used to cover the additional medical expenses cancer patients incur that are not covered by their insurance.

Amount of Aid and Eligibility – In many cases, up to $15,000 of aid may be available from this fund.  Aid is available not only for a member who has been diagnosed with cancer, but some aid is also available for cancer sufferers within a members’ immediate family, such as a spouse or child.  In limited cases, some aid may be available for parents and/or grandparents if they live with the member and are financially dependent on the member for their support.  The definition of immediate family does not include siblings or cousins.  Any questions on eligibility can be answered by our Cancer Assistance Chairman, whose contact information is available under the Resources tab.

Application Process – You may apply by clicking the “apply for help” button on this page, or by requesting an application form from the Cancer Assistance Chairman, or the Worthy Matron or Secretary of your Chapter.
